From August the 24th 2011, the government of Venice has decided to reintroduced the so called Venice city tax, which is something every guest has to pay in addition to their own bill in order to contribute to keep Venice alive, as it’s a city which needs daily refurbishments. This tax must be paid cash only, and it’s never included in price (either if you reserve via a travel agent, directly with us or through an online travel agency). It’s calculated this way (for all three star hotels):
- 3.00 euro per person per night in high season
- 1.50 euro per person per night in low season
- free of charge for children under 10 y.o., 50% of full price for guys under 16
- free of charge for all from the sixth day of your stay
High season has to be considered:
- up to October the 31st 2011
- from December the 3rd to December the 9th 2011
- from December the 23rd 2011 to January the 9th 2012
- Carnival (10-21 of February 2012)
- from April the 1st to October the 31st 2012
- during 8th of December 2012 week
- from December the 23rd to December the 31st 2012
We also ask you, if possible, to help us in this work, by paying it using coins; and remember we don’t like this tax as it means additional work to us.
Finally, also the East makes a stop in Venice; from June 2 to September 25, 2011, will be exhibited, at the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation’s gallery in St. Mark’s Square, the exhibition “Xijing“, which aims to make know to all the people who desire, the history of this beautiful continent.
The exhibition will host some works created by three different talented artists of the Eastern world; Ohen Shaoxiong (China), Tsuyoshi Ozawa (Japan), Gimhongsok (Corea).
The artists are involved in this project from the year 2007, and have created this cycle through the Xijing, a univers of events, stories and places.
Venice welcomes another interesting exhibition, intitled ” A Textile Experience – A Passion for colors “, which houses on the ground floor of the Museum of the Textiles and Costume in Palazzo Mocenigo, the wonderful works of the artist-architect Ruth Adler Schnee.
This famous German-American artist is the creator of tapestries, rugs and more generally, modern textiles, and she has dedicated her life to the creation of textiles of different shapes, colours and materials.
The exhibition is open every dau except on Monday, from 10.00 a.m to 17.00 p.m (last entry at 16.00 p.m)
From April 9 to October 31, 2011, is scheduled the exhibition intitled ” Venice and the Plague – Letters, Decrees, and rings of Health – Documents and Evidence of health and postal history “, which will take place on the island of New Lazzaretto, in Venice.
This show, was created to involve the visitors with unpublishied historical documents that tell the story of Venice and also of the other european Governments in the fight against epidemics.
The exhibition can be visited in the period prescribed; Saturday and Sunday at 9.45 a.m and at 16.30 p.m.
For other groups and hours are required reservations.
Organized in the atmosphere of the celebrations of the Unification of Italy, the exhibition “Union of Italy” collects a series of works and historical documents taken from civic museums and from important collections of Risorgimento and not just, and combines all this works in this particular exhibition.
Numerous and unique reports, paper, coins, old photographs, medals, budges and portraits are the protagonists of this exhibition, that has place on the second floor of the Museo Correr in Venice.
The exhibition can be visited from 16 June to 31 December 2011.
From the June 1 to November 27, 2011, will take place in Venice, more precisely at the National Archaeological Museum of Venice, the exhibition “The fall of meteorites“, curated by Bruno Corà.
The sculptures in the exhibition are made by Bizhan Bassiri, an Italian-Persian master, who initiated the project in 2009 in Belgium, and finally arrives in Venice, after a few stops in Florence.
The exhibition, mainly formed by works of white marble, bronze and steel, combines perfectly ancient and contemporary examples of art.
From 10 December 2009 to 31 December 2011, will be presented the exhibition “In praise of doubt“, at Punta della Dogana and Palazzo Grassi in Venice, the contemporary art’s show organized by Caroline Bourgeous.
The exhibtion includes works of art which had never been presented exposed before, all united by the same themes that they represent, that are the power and, at the same time, the human fragility, and the relationship between works of art and identity of being human.
The show starts with the ancient and mysterious works of art of the sixties, up to the more modern work, passing through the beautiful collection of Francois Pinault.
In the exhibition you can admire the works of 20 international artists, among them; Jeff Koons, Paul McCarthy, Subodh Gupta, Maurizio Cattelan, Dan Flavin, Chen Zen. Some of this artists will be also present at the exhibition.
The show is open daily from 10.00 a.m to 19.00 p.m, except on Tuesday.

Every Wednesday the entrance is free for Venetians, with presentation of an ID.
This year, on September the 4th 2011, Regata sotorica takes place. It’s the most important competition over the sea of Venice, which goes all over the Grand Canal and it’s more than 1000 years old. Many people come here every year for assist this amazing event, which has its jighest moment during the so called “regata dei campionissimi”, when all the most expert riders fight against each others.
